Amberif – this name is well-known to the amateurs of amber. Every year at the end of March, amber artists from all over the world come to Gdańsk, the world capital of amber. Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the fair was postponed until 26-29 August. What is the schedule of the 27th International Amber and Jewellery Fair? And is the event going to  be safe?

Gdańsk is the World Capital of Amber. It houses, among others, an excellent Amber Museum, and in St Bridget’s Basilica you will be able to admire the majestic amber altar. Walking around the city, for example in the charming St. Mary’s Street (Ulica Mariacka), you will meet many amber sellers, selling unique jewellery and magical souvenirs. No wonder that it is in Gdańsk that the world’s largest amber fair, the Amberif, takes place every year.

What can we expect this year?

The fair will be held at the AmberExpo Exhibition and Congress Centre in Gdańsk. This year, the event will host about 300 exhibitors from 13 countries. It is hard to estimate the number of visitors, but last year, Amberif was visited by 6 thousand trade visitors from 54 countries around the world.

The fair will be open from Wednesday to Friday between 10:00 and 18:00, and on Saturday between 10:00 and 16:00. In addition to the permanent exhibition, the programme includes accompanying attractions, such as a gemmological seminar on the identification of loose and framed diamonds using the J-Screen device, as well as exhibition interviews: “Revival Comes from the Amber Planet JANTAR” and “Baltic Amber Trends 2011-2020”. What else to expect? Vernissages, competition results, e.g. the Amber Jeweler of the Year 2019, or a presentation of the work by professor Sławomir Fijałkowski: “Trend Book 2019”. Of course, this is not all, and the full schedule is available at: www.amberif.amberexpo.pl.

Security and changes to Amberif 2020

It is clear that Amberif’s event had to undergo a number of changes due to the coronavirus epidemic to ensure maximum safety for the guests. This year, registration of buyers and exhibitors is exclusively online. The entrance badges must be printed out on your own. Participants will pass through a thermal imaging tunnel, where body temperature will be measured without contact. Disinfecting fluids, masks and a medical point will be available in the hall. Moreover, appropriate distances between the exhibitors will be maintained and the number of participants in the exhibition spaces will be strictly controlled. Also, the fair’s crowning event – the “Amber Look” fashion and jewellery gala will not take place.
