Cooking for the best. A visit to Secretariat restaurant in Sopot
– What is our cuisine like? Delicious and genuine! Businessmen like us as much as families with children do. Our interior is good for private meetings. We want to be a haven for those who are tired of the commotion of Monte Cassino, the main walkway of Sopot – explains Małgorzata Pospieszna, owner of the Sopot-based Secretariat restaurant. This is a relatively new spot on the culinary map of the Tricity, but it has already managed to win itself loyal customers.
Indeed, the usual Sopot commotion and crowd, characteristic of its main walkway, the Monte Cassino, is nowhere to be found in the neighbourhood of Secretariat. That is, of course, that there are no equestrian competitions taking place in the nearby Hippodrome.
Secretariat wins not only with its delicious cuisine, but also with an unusual location, which is the previously mentioned Hippodrome, in the Sopot district of Wyścigi. The Hippodrome is over a hundred years old. The building in which the restaurant is currently located, for years served as a grandstand for spectators.
– The name of the restaurant comes from the horse named Champion, who beat records in all races in the world in the 1970s. We hope that its successes will translate to the success of our restaurant – says Małgorzata Pospieszna.
What are the characteristics of the food served in Secretariat restaurant? – Our cuisine is supposed to be diverse, genuine, and tasty. We don’t care about minimalism, characteristic of culinary art restaurants. Our guests can enjoy typically Polish flavours, but if they are in the mood for shrimps they know that international cuisine dishes will also be waiting for them. What’s most important, the food is to be delicious, prepared with high-quality ingredients, and the portions need to satisfy hunger – explains the owner and assures that she co-operates with local suppliers on a daily basis, all in order to make sure all products served in the restaurant are of the highest quality.
-What is most important to me is to make certain my guests find my dishes tasty. I don’t like to be in the spotlight. I love what I do and all these fantastic reviews or a “thank you” from our guests bring be great joy. We have created a team here that feel more like family. There’s no place for acting like divas, there’s hard work, in a great, tight team. My dishes correspond with my character – I do not wish for awards, statuettes, contests. I want to feed each guest so that they leave Secretariat happy and satisfied, and remember their lunch or dinner for several following weeks! We want our guests to recommend our restaurant to their friends and families, and wait impatiently for their next visit – says Tomasz Górniak, head chef of Secretariat.
Tomasz Górniak emphasizes creating products on the spot, and a minimal amount of intermediates. This is why in this restaurant you will find homemade baguettes, hand-made dumplings floating in veal broth, homemade smoked meats, and pickled fish. All desserts, including ice-cream, are also prepared on the spot.
The menu also offers local spirits, such as the famous herbal Goldwasser with flakes of gold, or beer from the local brewery in Kościerzyna.
Secretariat offers place for up to 60 people. This is not all, however, as the entire property is much bigger. There is a training room with an extraordinary view on the Hippodrome located above the restaurant. The room is equipped in all necessary conference amenities. Next to the training room, there is also another, small conference room used for small receptions or business meetings. There is an event room for up to 100 people next to the restaurant, and its surroundings offer the possibility to organise larger events. Same area around the restaurant also gives you the ability to organize large events.
