– Brewing is a great passion of my husband Tomasz Lubocki. Fifteen years ago he constructed his microbrewery and so it began – says Maja Lubocka, owner of Gdańsk Lubrow Brewery and Barbados restaurant. Lubrow is a famous local brand that has its devoted fans throughout the country.
Although Tomasz Lubocki’s first brewing attempts took place 15 years ago, Lubrow Brewery was founded in 2012. – We were fed up with the lack of quality beers produced by large companies. We no longer wanted to serve “artificial” beer. We wanted our beer to be genuinely natural. That’s why we started to brew on our own. Our choice was natural beer, with lots of minerals and B-group vitamins. Just as we don’t add any enhancers to our food, we don’t add any to our beer – says Maja Lubocka.
Lubrow Brewery is located in the city centre, in Barbados restaurant, which belongs to Lubocki family. Visiting the brewery you will see impressive brewing vats, which are also part of the decor.
Beers offer in Lubrow Brewery
Before the delicious beverage fills the glasses, it matures for four to six weeks. – As the first brewery in Poland we brewed such beers as Ynteligent, made from beets, Yerba IP from Yerba Mate, Mate Nayerbane with Yerba Mate and red tea, Kolender of Mientolina – with coriander and orange peel or Dominikańskie, which was created and first brewed by our son Dominik. We also have Hevelianum beer, in honor of Johannes Hevelius – Maja Lubocka says.
Brewing is a passion of men in the Lubocki family. In addition to Tomasz (senior) there are also his two sons – the previously mentioned Dominik and Tomasz (junior). Dominik Lubocki is also a great enthusiast of brewing. Together with his father, he is the master brewer in Lubrow. The elder son, Tomasz, on the other hand is a student at the Academy of Fine Arts. He is responsible for designing beer labels (eg. ones with shipyard cranes, the symbol of Gdańsk) and beer advertisements.
You can enjoy beer from Lubrow Brewery not only in Gdańsk, but also in Wejherowo. – As the first microbrewery in Poland we have beer cistern, in which we transport beer to our premis in Wejherowo. This restaurant has vats with fermentation jackets installed, which makes the beer taste as delicious as in our brewery. We also transport beer in barrels that are installed in special cold rooms, fitted to store unpasteurised beer – explains Maja Lubocka.
She then adds: – We are very connected with the place we live in, that’s why some of the beer names you will come across are related to the region, such as Stolem or SKM beers. The beer revolution has spread all across Poland. I don’t wish to judge other breweries. All I can say is that our offer is broad, and our products are of top quality.
