I carefully monitor Polish tables, and I can proudly state that we start respecting local products. It is nothing extraordinary taking into account our historical turbulence and the search for our culinary identity, but everyone has suddenly experienced a moment of enlightenment, which – unfortunately – reflects only our low national self-esteem. But the national spirit does not break, and I would like to pay small tribute to all those who do not care about alcoholic beverages from faraway regions.

I do not incite you to degradation, but I am going to share a recipe for Polish punch with you. The ingredients reigning supreme in the drink, which can be just as well called “the joy in a bucket”, make it perfect for summer heat. It is an excellent idea for parties for everyone – without social divisions and pomposity. But I assure you that everyone will certainly find joy in delighting in this interesting combination adapted to all conditions.

Slice apples and pears and soak them in a significant amount of Bison Vodka to make them improve in crazy flavour and power. You also need some sugar syrup, which is simply white sugar in a small amount of water. After the sugar is mixed with water and completely dissolved, you get a liquid but thick substance which is deceptively similar to syrup. Squeeze in some lemon juice to ensure it’s not too sweet. You also need some cloudy apple juice, preferably from a small, niche press. Another ingredient straight from our orchards is cider. It must be in its dry version without any honey or cinnamon (because such cider is also available). You obviously need ice, too. Take large cubes and add a handful of chopped mint.

The bucket I mentioned earlier will be a well our companions will return to as if on wings. But I’m afraid some of them will experience the DTs firsthand in the morning. Everything is in your hands. The bucket can be really heavy…

Remember to prepare quite a large bucket. It only remains for me to give you the best proportions for the fuel to power up every party. But remember: your bucket, your tastes! With time it is worth trying out your own recipe for the “perfect bucket”.

0.5 l fiery liquid mixed with Hierochloe odorata commonly known as bison vodka

two large handfuls of sliced apples and pears

3 l apple juice

1 l dry cider

1 cup sugar syrup

0.5 cup lemon juice

All the ingredients spend their last moments mixed in a bucket with a large amount of ice. Bear in mind that this magical liquid from the bucket can turn traitor and take you to a different world. It can be tough to get back to reality the morning after. But there is always the tempting bucket waiting for you…
