Come celebrate together in Pomorskie! Do you like music festivals with world’s top artists? Or maybe you prefer more intimate events? Ethnic sounds? Jazz? If not music, then maybe film, theatre, horse racing or yachting? Summer by the Baltic Sea will give you unforgettable time. Here is a list of the most noteworthy events in the upcoming months.
Events in Pomorskie that you cannot miss
Gdynia Sailing Days is one of the largest sailing events in the Baltic Sea basin. The grand celebration will take place July 9-24. With more than 600 sailors taking part in 20 regatta classes, the event will be a display of many unique yachts, including luxury motorboats, house boats, and scooters. Gdynia Sailing Days is a family-friendly event, with a special kids’ zone – the Kinder Joy of Moving – designated on the nearby beach.
“After two years of organizing the event under pandemic restrictions, we are fortunate to once again open up to both residents and tourists. Of course, we are not forgetting that the pandemic is long from over, but lifting the restrictions has given us some breathing room. Since the very beginning, Gdynia Sailing Days has not only been a celebration for our community, but also an excellent opportunity to promote sailing, especially among children and teenagers who are still to learn about this sport. Gdynia Sailing Days is an entire spectrum of regatta sailing, with famous Polish and international sailors. There is also a lot of sailing youth. I can’t wait to see hundreds of sails along the horizon on the Bay of Gdańsk. Come and visit Gdynia,” says Tomasz Chamera, head of the Polish Yachting Association.
CSIO5* Sopot Horse Show is the Official International Equestrian Competition. It is a spectacular sports discipline, which draws around 20,000 fans from all around the world each year. In four days – June 9-12 – a total amount of 2 million PLN will be awarded in 10 competitions. Gdynia Sailing Days is organised since 1983, and each edition draws bigger names, including competitors from the top of international rankings. This is definitely something worth experiencing.
“Show jumping is the most popular equestrian discipline, which draws people to Sopot each year. This year’s CSIO5* edition, the Sopot Horse Show 2022, includes 11 international contests with a total prize amount of 2 million PLN. It will also include junior pony competitions as part of CSIO Sopot Young Stars, and foal auctions. Starting lists include world-class participants, including a Tokyo Olympics team golden medalist and the team of the European 1st division – the equestrian champions league. We are certain that during these four days participants will bring us many unforgettable moments, and that everyone will find something for themselves,” said Agnieszka Maziarka, spokesperson for the CSIO5* Sopot Horse Show 2022.
St. Dominic’s Fair is an event that each year draws crowds from all around the world to Gdańsk. From July 23 to August 14, the city will become home to a parade of colourful characters, street artists, and merchants from all around the world. The fair’s stands will have something for everyone: from beautiful jewelery, through exotic herbs and spices, to antique furniture. You will also find handicraft, pottery, and clothes from local designers. It doesn’t end here! The fair is primarily a family event, and a spot for social gatherings. There are well-equipped dining areas where you can sit down and eat something delicious. The organizers have also taken care of attractions for children, so gather the entire family and come visit the fair.
Gdynia Design Days is an annual celebration of design for professionals and everyone fascinated with design. The exhibitions, workshops, lectures and discussions that are part of the festival address issues such as technology, process design, ecology, design, fashion, architecture, urban development and crafts. Between July 2-10, a series of events are scheduled to address the most pressing issues of the day. This year’s slogan is Solidarity as a sign of trying to change our perspective, by putting the planet at the centre instead of passively waiting for top-down initiatives.
Theatre and film events in Pomorskie
FETA is a unique event, where theater goes out to the people, to the street. The International Street and Open-Air Theater Festival is gaining more and more fans every year. Because whoever has seen FETA live at least once, will want to return to it forever. This year’s 24th edition will be located in Przymorze Wielkie, and its heart will beat in the green spaces of Ronald Reagan Park. Some of the events will also spill outside of Reagan Park, such as the “Arrived” street performance, where artists will go deep into the city to surprise passersby with their playful behavior. Between 7-10 July, 17 theaters from 9 countries will come to Gdańsk. It’s a must-see!
Gdynia Film Festival is one of the most popular film events in Poland. Every year the greatest names of Polish cinema come to Gdynia to celebrate together the art of film. The festival is at the same time a presentation of the most interesting works of Polish cinematography, both from new and more experienced filmmakers. The formula of the event allows for an open confrontation of the film works with the audience and journalists. This year’s edition will take place September 12-17.
Music events in Pomorskie
Open’er is undoubtedly one of the most popular music events in Pomeranian Voivodeship, attracting festival goers from all over Europe every year. From June 29 to July 2, Gdynia – Kosakowo Airport will turn into a festival town. This year’s program features names such as: Dua Lipa, Imagine Dragons, Maneskin, Glass Animals, Twenty One Pilots, Jessie Ware or The Killers. Polish artists who will perform during the 4-day festival include: Dawid Podsiadło, Young Leosia or Taco Hemingway. The biggest star, however, will be The Chemical Brothers. And while music is certainly what’s been drawing so many people to Open’er, it is also worth visiting for the unique atmosphere of a major European music festival.
Globaltica is an interesting musical event . On July 14-16th Gdynia Kolibki Park will be filled with the sounds of different world cultures. It is a magical festival, where cultural roots meet modernity, and the invited artists save tradition from oblivion. And although music sounds loudest here, other works of art will also find their place: literature, art, photography and film. All this in a clearing, under the summer sky. Globaltica – its sounds, lights, and colours always have always impressed us, so we think you also wouldn’t want to miss this event.
Wisłoujście is a new festival that debuted in 2018 and immediately gained immense popularity. It is organized in a unique place, where the Vistula River ends its course and time has stopped – in the surroundings of the historic Wisłoujście Fortress. The site, which is normally austere, turns into a magical space full of colour and light during the festival. Wisłoujście is one of those events that is worth experiencing at least once, and if you do – you will certainly want to return there every summer. Save the date in your calendar: August 19-21 and get ready for an explosion of multidimensional experiences.
Gdańsk Lotos Siesta Festival is an event full of world music, jazz, Lusophone culture and other hypnotic rhythms. This year, September 8-11, we will experience Fado Night with Diana Vilarinho and a performance by REMNA. These are two key arguments for attending Gdańsk Lotos Siesta Festival, and the icing on the cake is the fact that the artists have never performed in Poland before. Both the young Diana, who has been into fado since she was 9, and REMNA, who describes herself with these words: “My backbone is Africa, my body is the rest of the world”, will take us on a nostalgic journey to the deepest recesses of our souls.
Fląder Festival is a tribute to the Polish independent and alternative scene. The event brings together many different musical genres, and this diversity becomes a bridge, connecting generations. Young and old alike have fun at Fląder Festival. One of the greatest advantages of the festival is its location on the Gdańsk beach. Sand underfoot and the sound of waves, accompanied by a blanket and cold beer – this is the atmosphere of Fląder Festival. Come and experience it on your own June 17-18.
Gdańsk Music Festival is a big event, lasting 10 days. A real feast for connoisseurs of symphonic music. From July 13-22 a number of interesting concerts are planned in various locations in Gdańsk. Some of them will be held at the Polish Baltic Philharmonic Hall, and others in: Radio Gdańsk concert studio, St. John’s Centre in Gdańsk, and in the concert hall of the Academy of Music. Performances will include Camille Thomas (cello) and Paweł Przytocki (conductor) with the Polish Baltic Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra, Piotr Pławner (violin/conductor) with Capella Bydgostiensis or Alexandre Kantorow (piano) and Jean-Jacques Kantonow (conductor) with Sinfonia Varsovia.
Sopot also celebrates classically! NDI Sopot Classic opens for connoisseurs July 2-8. The event will begin with an evening of Latin American music and will then take us on a journey through Polish music to Baroque sounds. The star-studded opera main gala will feature Sandra Radvanowsky. Concerts will take place in various interesting locations in Sopot.
Ladies’ Jazz Festival is the only festival of women of jazz in Europe. From July 25-31, in three Pomeranian locations (Kashubian Philharmonic, Musical Theatre in Gdynia, Cultural Consulate in Gdynia) we will hear good, female music. Stars at this year’s festival include: Rebeka BAKKEN, Grażyna Łobaszewska, Tanita Tikaram or Aga Zaryan.
On July 9, 10, 14 and September 3, Letnie Brzmienia (Summer Sounds) will be heard in Gdańsk. It’s a summer tour with 20 artists that travels through 13 major cities in Poland. Artists to perform in Gdańsk include: Nosowska, Brodka, Kwiat Jabłoni, Mrozu, Sobel and Natalia Przybysz. The outdoor stage will be set up in the People’s Assembly Square (Plac Zebrań Ludowych).
Męskie Granie is going on tour in Poland again. On August 19-20 they will come to Gdansk. The event in the Letnica stadium will feature, among others: Me and that man, Fish Emade Tworzywo, Ralph Kamiński, Dawid Podsiadło, Zdechły Osa, Kaśka Sochacka, Sanah or Tymek. This year’s anthem of the event is the song “Jest tylko teraz” performed by Zalewski, Bedoes and Kwiat Jabłoni. You will certainly hear it in the Letnica stadium.
