Sailboats, catamarans and yachts have taken over Gdynia. This is the result of the annually organized regatta, Gdynia Sailing Days, during which sailors from all around the world compete against one another in several categories. This year’s race is unique, since it marks the 20th anniversary of this sailing holiday.

It has already been 20 years since the Baltic regatta was officially inaugurated by the city of Gdynia. The first event was held in 2000 and quickly gained recognition among sailing enthusiasts at home and abroad. Today, we can already speak of tradition that draws to the Bay of Gdańsk thousands of competitors, and even more spectators and sailing enthusiasts. And since this is a genuine “festival” , the organisers have prepared many accompanying events, both on- and off-shore.

Gdynia is the sailing capital of Poland during Gdynia Sailing Days

Gdynia Sailing Days is the largest sailing event in Poland, and the second largest in the Baltic Sea region. Its increasing popularity encourages organisers to raise the bar a bit higher each year. There are almost 1,500 participants from 30 countries taking part in this year’s edition. The prestigious event is held for several days (from July 21 to August 3) in the Gdynia marina, in the heart of the city. The highlight of this year’s edition is the 29er class World Championship. Polish Senior Championship in olympic windsurfing is another event that should get your attention, together with the Optimist class junior championships. At the time of the event, Gdynia is a host to many successful names from all around the world, but also young sailors who are just beginning their sailing adventure.

Regatta Gdynia Sailing Days in the centre of the city 

For the duration of the race, a special championship zone is set up for anyone who would like to enter and watch the sailors compete. Players are perfectly visible to the public, and as soon as they disembark, you can meet with them and talk. Like every year, the organisers prepared many accompanying side events and attractions, mostly for children, but not only. This year, you can try yourself in quizzes and memory games, as well as take advantage of physical activities. The youngest spectators can take part in daily Young Sailor warm-ups and create their own toys with recycled materials, including paper sail boats and sailor hats. While the cat is away, parents can enjoy a cup of aromatic coffee, hot or iced, relax on sun loungers, or explore the rich gastronomic offer at Kościuszko Square.
