St. Dominic’s Fair is one of the biggest summer events in Gdansk, attracting millions of tourists every year. This year the Fair promotes itself under the slogan “Gdańsk Festival of Wonders”. A fantastic slogan, a fantastic declaration! So we set out in search of wonders, but we adopted a certain filter – let it be wonders related to Pomorskie.
Pomorskie Street is located on Szeroka Street near the intersection with Grobla II Street. Its beginning is marked by the “Flavors of Gdansk” stand, where you will find a selected offer of regional producers, including those affiliated with the BASCIL program. The idea behind the stand is that producers change every few days so that fair visitors can experience the full spectrum of Gdansk and regional flavors. Among them: Oria Magic House, Makowa Koza, Chwastowe Pole, Miodolandia, WitAnn, Tastes of Kashubia, Siejemy Ferment and Piwnica Rajców Restaurant.
And what can be heard on Pomeranian Street? First of all, laughter and bustle. You can smell sweet honey, regional cheeses and fresh baked goods. Here you’ll taste rose baked goods, filled with a mousse of mashed rose petals, or pistachios with velvety pistachio filling. Moving on, your gaze stops at the golden amber with which you will adorn your body and the beautiful hand-crafted ceramics that will adorn your homes. There are also souvenirs, lots of souvenirs! You can buy here, for example, a mug with an image of Gdansk tenements, which will become an inseparable companion of your mornings, or a charming refrigerator magnet, which will remind you of warm August weekends all year round.
When visiting Pomorskie Street, you can’t miss the stand with Kashubian handicrafts, because there are the wonders you are looking for – amber lamps, earrings, stained glass, pendants and pictures. We also found ambrosia for the body – natural cosmetics with amber and ultra-comfortable pillows with feathers and down. For health – live vinegars made from Pomorskie herbs that have undergone a process of very long fermentation, and for connoisseurs – high-alcohol liquors from the Gdansk Historic Flavors Factory. There are also stands of social economy entities, where you can buy, among other things, bags converted from advertising banners and drink aromatic coffee. Admit it yourselves, there’s plenty to test and there’s plenty to choose from!
We encourage you to look for regional accents at the Fair as well. Visit the Pomorskie Street, full of wonderful flavors and smells, but don’t forget about the other zones. At the Fair you will find, among others, the Street of Polish Designers, the Collectors’ Zone, the Artistic Podwale or the Graphics and Poster Zone. There’s also the Tastes Stop, where you’ll get energy for further wandering, the Retro Stop, full of items with soul, and the Amber Sky Adventure Stop for little explorers.
St. Dominic’s Fair is open until August 18. The full program of the event can be found on the organizer’s official website: https://jarmarkswdominika.pl
