Autumn flavours on the farms and bazaars of Pomorskie
Autumn, you’ve got to love it or hate it. You can blame it for the abrupt end of summer. But whatever your opinion may be, you have to admit: it is one of the most pronounced seasons, especially when it comes to cooking. The flavours and aromas of autumn should be enough to compensate for the brief period of “inconvenient” weather. We think that they are more than enough…
What is autumn? Hot ginger tea, with a pinch of cinnamon, slice of orange, and some cloves? The scent of spiced cookies following you around the house? Or perhaps a warm sweater and the crackle of wood in the fireplace? Whatever your may be, if you visit one of the local bazaars in Pomorskie, there is a good chance you are going to see yet another face of autumn: full of pumpkins, mushrooms, plums and pears. How to make use of them in the kitchen? For example, try pumpkin soup, or a plum pie. Pears are also perfect for desserts, or as a side to meat. Peel some, braise them in white wine, then roast with some blue cheese and serve with cranberries. Mushrooms are equally versatile: you can marinate them, or prepare an aromatic soup, or just treat them as one of the delicious sides for both meat and vegetarian dishes. You can also dry them for later use. And that is not all, there is not limit to your imagination and creativity.
The bazaars of Pomorskie
What are the top bazaars in Pomorskie? First place you should check out is the Gdański Bazar Natury (Gdańsk Nature Bazaar) located in Garnizon Kultury, in the district of Wrzeszcz. It is a unique place with eco and regional produce from local farmers. Galeria Metropolia (Metropolia Shopping Mall) on the other hand houses Bazar Pomorska Spiżarnia (Pomorskie Pantry Bazaar), which offers not only fresh vegetables but also preserves. You can also check out one of the small, local marketplaces: Gdańsk Wrzeszcz market, Sopot market, or Miejska Hala Targowa (City Market Hall) in Gdynia.
Pumpkin farm as a regional attraction
This is a place you have to visit at least once a year, in autumn. They offer a wide range of different pumpkin varieties, which apart from tasting great make an excellent photo-shoot material. Around Halloween, the entire farm looks like a scene from Harry Potter. Dyniowe Love, which is the name of the farm located on Zaczarowana 60 street in Rotmanka. Apart from a shop with different varieties of pumpkins and pumpkin preserves, you can also try some freshly-made treats: pumpkin cheesecake, cupcakes, or pizza (also with pumpkin) and pumpkin fries. If you like bonfires, you can bring your own marshmallows. The farm is open on weekends only, and admission is 5 PLN. During the week, on the other hand, you can rent it for an exclusive photo session, for example.
Unfortunately, due to CoVid-2019 restrictions, some of the attractions have been limited until further notice. We hope that everything will return to normal next year.
